My name is Toby. I am 21. I am in my fourth year of a Bachelor of Laws / Communications and Media degree (majoring in marketing). I live in Jamberoo (30 mins south of Wollongong)
Before I applied to uni I had a pretty decent idea of what it would be like. Both my parents went to uni as well as my older sister. One thing I got wrong was that I thought it would be full of people with similar life experiences/upbringings as me and so we would have similar reasons for attending university. I very quickly learnt that a wide range of people attend uni, both in terms of age and demographically which results in very different contexts for attendance at this institution.
I asked my pop, who did not go to uni, what comes to mind when you say ‘university student’. He said doing not much work and what work is done is mostly reading and although these are stereotypes, they are probably pretty accurate.
